If you were to ask the majority of the population about their feelings toward hospitals, you would probably get a headache from all the complaining and harping that comes out of their mouths. The truth is that most people do not like going to the doctor, and they like going to the doctor when they are sick even less. It is a completely understandable sentiment. You head to the ER and sit in a waiting room for the better part of forever and right around the time you’re dropping dead from some yet undiagnosed illness you’re called to the back where you are pocked and prodded and asked embarrassing questions. After all of that is through you wait a few more hours only to be given a lollipop and a pat on the head because whatever is wrong with you requires a nap more than medical attention. It is enough to turn anyone away. The trick is finding a middle ground between constant hospital visits for every little hangnail, and effective treatments outside of those hallowed medicinal walls. There are surprisingly diverse amounts of treatments that can be used for viruses, especially one in particular known as Shingles.

Shingles and The Seniors

Ah, the vagina. A favored section of the anatomy once people get to know it, there is never a shortage of potential guests unless mitigating circumstances work to change things. Whether it is lack of desire or a reduction in either interest or ability, nothing kills the chance to have sex with quite the speed and flair as that of an infectious skin rash. When you happen to be getting on in chronological years, if not psychological years, then anything that threatens this most beloved of past times should be avoided at all costs. If it can be prevented from happening all together, that would be even better. While there are a host of possibilities that we could discuss that falls into the sex-killing-skin-rash section of medicine, right now we will focus on Shingles disease. This particular nasty is not known as Herpes Zoster for nothing, though that reason is probably not the one you are thinking of.

Shingles and Pregnancy

For those of us who have had the chicken-pox, it has understood just how miserable the seemingly innocuous sounding sickness can make you. Children have it hard, but if you never contracted the virus when you were still young and able to bounce back easily, then you are in for a beating once you get older. Combine with that the roller-coaster ride of sickness associated with pregnancy and you have a dangerous combination. Especially when the Vericella virus that makes up both the chicken-pox and shingles, decides to lean more one way than the other.

While rare, contracting shingles disease while pregnant is not unheard of and it is that same rarity that makes it dangerous. Since the cases concerning shingles during pregnancy are so few and far between, it is nearly impossible for doctors to study where things have gone wrong.
